Blackbird Early Years Music
Class Venue: Totterdown, Bristol
Time: Saturday mornings, 10 am – 1 pm
Blackbird Early Years Music is run by concert pianist and teacher, Helen Reid. The classes provide a musical foundation for children from 4-7 years old. Small group sizes (maximum 3 children per class) allow for a high level of individual attention, whilst encouraging musical interaction, fun, and the development of important listening skills. The classes have been designed to correspond to the primary areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Core activities include: movement to music; clapping and playing rhythmic patterns; listening and responding to music from a variety of cultures and traditions; singing; conducting; improvising and creating our own pieces of music; and learning to play simple tunes on the piano.
I have worked as a classical pianist, teacher and workshop leader for over 15 years. I also have two pre-school age children. As a parent and teacher, I am passionate about creating a space in which children can learn to feel and experience music as naturally, happily and widely as possible – before beginning to think about playing an instrument in a more formal way. I hold a diploma and MA in piano performance, and a postgraduate certificate in teaching. I have an up-to-date CRB check.
Cost: £6 per class. Classes are 30 minutes long, with a maximum of 4 children per class. Tea and coffee is provided for parents. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the classes.
